End Of The Year Art Reflection

In the second semester I have learned many different art techniques.

The first project that we did was making a coil pot. In that project I learned a couple of different ways that you can make a coil pot and that you should smooth it out on the inside to help it stick together better.

The second project that we did was the clay lantern/house. With that project, I made mine into a bigger version of a Hershey Kiss and I learned how to make the clay into a cone shape- that was probably the hardest part.

The one after that was our advanced ceramic project. I thought that it was cool how we got a lot of different choices on what we wanted to make. I chose to make a checker board with pieces for this project and I didn't really learn all that much from it, I just thought that it was a good way to get creative with some of the projects.

After that, we did our light bulb structure project. I thought that it was really neat because I hadn't really thought of using light bulbs for an art project. I learned how to take all of the stuff out of a light bulb. There were a lot of different ideas that you could do for this project, and I think it would be fun to do some of the other ideas sometime.

After our light bulb structure project, we started our last project- papier mache sculpture. I thought that this project was pretty fun, although it was kind of hard to come up with an idea for it at first. I hadn't ever made a big papier mache project like that before, so it was a new experience for me.

For the Art Fair, there were a lot of very well done and creative pieces there! I think my favorite section of the Art Fair was the Acrylic/ Oil Painting area- there was a ton of good art. In my own personal opinion, two of my favorite pieces in that section was the one of the little girl swimming and the one that was black and white and of the sports team. The one of the little girl swimming was just so detailed and looked like it could've been a picture taken. The one of the sports team was just really good and had a lot of detail in it also. Another cool piece that I saw at the Art Fair was in the Mixed Medias area and it was a mixture between a piano and buildings; it was just so creative.

Papier Mache Sculpture

For our papier mache sculpture project I made an old iPod Nano. I used cardboard, newspaper, paper towels, black paint, silver paint, and papier mache. For I made the cardboard into the right shape and then papier mached newspaper on, and then papier mached paper towels on, and then painted silver paint on and then black paint. I even added in a place to put headphones and to charge it! I do like how it turned out though.

Light Bulb Structure Project

For my light bulb structure I made a penguin and a snowman. I used light bulbs, paint, glaze, and wire for my project. I pretty much like how it all turned out. I painted both of the light bulbs with regular paint except for the face on the penguin- I used glaze for that because there wasn't any orange paint that I could find.

Advanced Ceramic Project

For my advanced ceramic project I made a checkerboard with checker pieces. I glazed the checkerboard with a gray and black glaze. The pieces for my checkerboard are supposed to be like little Starburst pieces and for half of the pieces they are red and yellow and then the other ones are pink and orange. They have two different colors because when you are playing the game of Checkers, once you make it to the other side then you flip it over because it is a "King" piece. The checkerboard is 1x1.
I kind of like how it turned out. I think that I could've done a little bit of a better painting job on it though.

Clay Lantern/House

This is a clay house that I made. I pretty much used clay and glaze for mine. I made mine so that it would kind of look like a Hershey's Kiss. The hole in the front is supposed to me like a door and above the door it says "Hershey's Home". I glazed it with a brown glaze. I pretty much like how it turned out. I think that I could've spent a little more time on it and maybe added something so that it would look a little more like an actual Hershey Kiss, but I do think it turned out pretty cool that way that it is.

Coil Pot

This is my coil pot that I made out of clay. I glazed it with a grey colored glaze. It is a total of 9 inches tall. While doing this project, I learned how to make a taller coil pot. I think that it turned out pretty well.

End of Semester Art Reflection

I have learned all sorts of new things so far this school year in my 3-D art class. I have learned a ton of things like how to use the wheel and how to make things on the wheel. I have also learned some different techniques in art. So far, I think that most of the projects have been pretty fun! I think the more fun ones are the ones where your project turns out pretty good. But, I do think that one of my favorite units was the hump and slump and then quite a few of wheel throwing projects have been pretty fun. I think that I would have to say that my least favorite project was the pinch pots, and I only say that because those projects weren't quite the best. Considering that those were at the beginning of the year, I think that I have improved at least a little bit in this class and would probably be able to make a better pinch pot. I also didn't really find the balloon animals as fun, but I don't know why. I did like to work with the wheel a little bit even though some of the projects took more than just one time to do because they don't always work like you want them to. It doesn't exactly matter to me what kinds of materials that we use. I did like using the clay though, so I wouldn't mind using that again. I also don't think that I would mind drawing 3-D stuff such as shapes and stuff, as long as it didn't have to do with still life. :) I don't really know of any other materials to use for 3-D art, but I don't think that I would mind using them.
