End of Semester Art Reflection

I have learned all sorts of new things so far this school year in my 3-D art class. I have learned a ton of things like how to use the wheel and how to make things on the wheel. I have also learned some different techniques in art. So far, I think that most of the projects have been pretty fun! I think the more fun ones are the ones where your project turns out pretty good. But, I do think that one of my favorite units was the hump and slump and then quite a few of wheel throwing projects have been pretty fun. I think that I would have to say that my least favorite project was the pinch pots, and I only say that because those projects weren't quite the best. Considering that those were at the beginning of the year, I think that I have improved at least a little bit in this class and would probably be able to make a better pinch pot. I also didn't really find the balloon animals as fun, but I don't know why. I did like to work with the wheel a little bit even though some of the projects took more than just one time to do because they don't always work like you want them to. It doesn't exactly matter to me what kinds of materials that we use. I did like using the clay though, so I wouldn't mind using that again. I also don't think that I would mind drawing 3-D stuff such as shapes and stuff, as long as it didn't have to do with still life. :) I don't really know of any other materials to use for 3-D art, but I don't think that I would mind using them.

3 Wheel Throwing Projects

For my first wheel throwing project, I made a multilayer piece out of clay on the wheel. I glazed it with a light blue glaze. While doing this project, I learned how to make another layer while using the wheel. I think that this project turned out pretty well. I don't think that I did a very good job, in all, on my glazing, at least on making sure that it was all the same shade and everything.
For my other wheel throwing project, I made a bowl thing with a handle on it. I made this using clay and I ended up having to use some glue to glue the handle on because I didn't get it on on time. I glazed this project with a brown glaze for both the handle and the bowl. For the handle I just kind of made it by flattening it out and then forming it to the right length and form and everything. For this project, I learned how to make the handle and put it on. I think that the bowl part turned out pretty good, but I don't think that the handle turned out very good and I could've done a better job on that.

For my last wheel throwing project I did a bowl with decoration on the bottom. I used clay, glaze, and some wheel throwing tools for this project. I glazed this bowl with a warm gray color and I used a wheel throwing tool to make the decoration on the bottom of the bowl. This is probably one of my favorite and best projects that I have done all semester. I think that it turned out really well actually. I think that one thing that I could've done better on is making sure that the edges on the bowl were all pretty even. Other than that, I think that it turned out pretty good.

Balloon Animals

For these balloon animals I used clay and glaze. I first made them out of clay and stuck some of the pieces together with some slip too. For the turtle I glazed it with this green color and for the eyes I used this dark blue and for the rabbit I glazed it with the opaque white and then for the eyes and mouth I used the same dark blue. On the turtle I carved in some octagon shapes for the shell and then on the rabbit I made little lines on the feet. I really liked how the turtle turned out, even though I think that the shell could've turned out a little better. I don't think that the rabbit turned out as well as I wish that it would've but, I still think that it turned out okay. With the balloon animals, I learned how to make the animals and stuff out of clay.

Slab Vessel Project

This is the finished product of my slab vessel project. I created this project with clay and I glazed it with a light blue colored glaze. For this project we were supposed to make some type of clay piece that had a lid with a handle on it. I put just a simple  circle like decoration on it.
I really liked the color that I chose to glaze it with and I liked the idea of the project. My project didn't really turn out as well as I would've liked it to especially with how the lid doesn't fit very well, but I still like the project. While making this project I learned how to make a box thing and add a lid with a handle on it.

Hump and Slump Clay Project

My first project of the hump and slump project is this turquoise colored bowl. This was the hump part of it. I used a bowl thing that had a flower shaped rim thing. I didn't use the flower rim because I didn't want it on there. I put a quote from Sid Ceaser on the outside of the bowl. There were a couple of cracks on the top part of the bowl which are visible, but the glaze went over them and covered it up.
I like the color that I chose to glaze it with and I also like the idea of putting the quote on there.

My second project of the hump and slump project is this white Christmas plate. This was the slump part of it. I used just a plain plastic plate and put clay "into" the plate. I glazed the plate in a whole just a plain white. I wrote "Merry Christmas" around the outside rim of the plate. In between the top two Merry Christmas' is two holly which are glazed with a original green and red. Then in the middle of the plate is a Christmas tree. The Christmas tree is glazed with a green actual tree, has a brown colored base/stump of the Christmas tree, and then there are "Christmas lights" put on the tree which are the colors of orange, yellow, and a red. I like the idea of the plate and thought that it actually turned out pretty well. I could use this to give as a present, if I were to want to do that, or maybe I could use it to put cookies on it for Santa. :)

Figurines

This was my first figurine. It is a white volleyball that is glazed with a white covering. It has the lines, like a volleyball, carved into it.

This was my second figurine. It is an apple with a worm in it. It was kind of an interesting creation. The apple is glazed with a red coating and then the worm is kind of like a burgundy coating.

Both of the figurines were quite smooth. Both of them looked mostly like what they actually look like in real life. Such as, the apple actually looks like an actual apple and a volleyball looks like an actual volleyball except that it is a bit smaller then what one actually looks like.

Pinch Pots

This is my first pinch pot. It is a squareish-circelish shape. It is painted yellow all around except for on the top rim part and then it has blue polka dots in random spots.

This is my second pinch pot. It, again, is a squareish-circleish shape. It is painted a turquoise shape all around.

I think that my first pinch pot turned out better than my second one. The reason that is, is because it was smoother and it just looked better than the other one.
